Our Story:

Franklin Light Opera was founded in 2020 by Karen Dumont and Julie Gilbreath who gathered a small, but mighty, group of artists who shared the dream of establishing a new light opera company in Franklin, TN to create opportunities for local performers to bring classical repertoire to life. Following our Inaugural Backyard Concert in 2020, we successfully produced Pauline Viardot’s Cinderella in 2021 and the Best of Gilbert & Sullivan in 2022, both in partnership with the Williamson County Performing Arts Center. In 2022 we launched our first educational program, a teen light opera workshop “Topsy Turvy” held at Concordia Arts Academy. We are continuing to grow and are actively recruiting musicians, performers, board members, backstage helpers, and supporters of the arts. We are also seeking financial support from the community.

Our Mission:

Franklin Light Opera aims to bring light opera, operetta, and classic musical theatre to audiences in and around Franklin, TN. We plan to produce and create exciting community-centered productions and concerts, and to offer educational programs for youth and adults. We strive to entertain and bring joy, serving as a source of “light” within the community. FLO is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
